Q: What are my options on a traffic citation?
A: If you receive a citation, you can choose from several options. You will be asked to fill out a "plea sheet" and choose from either Guilty, Not Guilty or No Contest. If you plead No Contest, you can pay the fine and the citation will be reflected on your permanent driving record. You can appear before the Judge at Municipal Court, plead No Contest and request deferred adjudication. If granted, you will pay the fine plus a $50 administrative fee. If you do not receive another citation within 90 days, the offense will not be reflected on your permanent driving record. If you have not done so during the last 12 months, you can plead No Contest and request to take a driver safety course. With this option, you pay court cost and will be given 90 days to complete the course. (Some restriction apply. Check with the court clerk for more information) You will also be required for furnish us with a copy of your permanent driving record. After completing the driver safety course, return the certificate of completion and the permanent driving record to Town Hall and the citation will be dismissed.
